Two of America's biggest brands�Walmart and Safeway�are looking awfully dirty. We think they need new slogans.

Why? Every day, they leave larger and dirtier transportation footprints by shipping products with fuel from Canada's Tar Sands--the world's dirtiest oil. Tar Sands are strip-mined from forests that create the air we breathe, leaving behind toxic lakes so large they can be seen from outer space.

And Walmart and Safeway's current slogans just don't capture this dirty reality. Let's help them out: give them slogans that demonstrate how every purchase in their stores pays for dirty Tar Sands oil.

The ink is drying on what could be the largest conservation initiative in history. ForestEthics and eight other environmental organizations have just signed a historic agreement with the Canadian forest industry to conserve our precious Boreal Forest. It starts with a total moratorium on logging across more than 29 million hectares (71 million acres) over the next three years.

Protect BC's North Coast from oil spills

The Canadian government is deciding whether to allow an oil pipeline that would bring over 200 tankers per year to BC�s coastal waters. The Enbridge pipeline would carry dirty Tar Sands oil from Alberta to Kitimat, where supertankers would carry the oil along the route where the Queen of the North sank. We have the ability to stop the next Exxon Valdez oil spill before it has the chance to happen.

Canadians are calling on government to permanently ban oil tankers on BC�s fragile North Coast.

Whole Foods rejects the Tar Sands; Bed Bath & Beyond requests cleaner fuel. Who's next?

Last summer, we sent letters to more than 100 Fortune 500 companies, warning that Canada's dirty Tar Sands was bad for their brands�and our planet's climate. Whole Foods and Bed Bath & Beyond responded by releasing landmark statements that they either reject Tar Sands fuels or discourage them. This signals that the US market is turning away from the Tar Sands, something dirty oil barons said would never happen.

Major corporations in the US are literally driving climate change by using Tar Sands fuel to ship their products. Together, we are moving the US market away from the most carbon-intensive, dirtiest oil on the planet. Whole Foods and Bed Bath & Beyond set the example, and it's time for other US companies to follow their lead.
