Renewable Energy
ForestEthics has purchased Renewable Energy Certificates to offset 100% of the electrical usage in our San Francisco office. This commitment to renewable energy will help prevent the release of 13,248 pounds (6 tons) of CO2, the leading greenhouse gas. This has the equivalent environmental benefit as one of the following.
- 1.3 cars removed from the road for a year
- 1 average homes not using electricity for a year or converting to renewable energy
- 5 acres of forest maintained (CO2 storage for a year)
What is a Renewable Energy Certificate?
By purchasing RECs, ForestEthics ensures an amount of clean energy equal to our electricity use is delivered to the electricity grid. This purchase will displace the generation of polluting coal and natural gas electricity throughout the power system and reduce emissions into the atmosphere. This occurs because when more renewable energy is delivered to the power grid, the need for coal or other brown sources of power declines and such facilities can be decommissioned. The RECs purchased by ForestEthics are Green-e™ certified which ensures they meet strict environmental and consumer protection standards established by the Center for Resource Solutions.
